What a great, irreverent, and satirical comedy. Never in my life have I found myself laughing so hard at things you aren't supposed to laugh at. Great job! I think I pulled something in my abdomen from laughing.

It's a Wonderful Afterlife
Gurinder Chadha 2009 | Premieres, Comedy, World Premiere
Had I not been stuck in the middle of a 70 seat row I would have walked out. I liked Bend it Like Beckham, and I was reminded by both the intro and the director herself about 17 times how good that film was...but this was not that film. It was really bad. She said it herself when she said that the screenplay was written entirely around her desire to mimic a scene from Carrie during a Hindi wedding. The movie played as such. While the story concept could have been ok, the characters were uncompelling and the humor (though eliciting more thana few good laughs) was borish and unable to carry (no pun intended) an otherwise terrible film. It felt to me like maybe the success of Bend It Like Beckham made her a little too secure in releasing a film that clearly was not up to the standards of her previous film.
